About us

The Corte Vision

Corte is the brainchild of Ed Alvarez and Richard Nicolson, two experienced individuals in both the racquet sport and club industries. Richard and Ed co-own Unionville Athletic Club and have been principals  on countless club projects for over 30-years. Both began their careers as teaching pros in Toronto,  in the respective sports, squash (Ed) and tennis (Richard).

They recognized a gap in the market: while high-end service model racquet clubs existed, they were often limited to exclusive private clubs that demanded substantial initiation fees and strict eligibility criteria.

This observation led them to wonder if it was possible to offer the same elevated service level at a more affordable price, accessible to a broader range of people. This curiosity laid the foundation for the birth of Corte.

Ed Alvarez and Richard Nicolson share a belief in the value of a "club" lifestyle, which serves as a third space for individuals to connect and socialize between the domains of home and work. They perceive clubs as hubs for community interaction. The significance of this community aspect was further highlighted during periods of lockdown, where the absence of such spaces was acutely felt. Corte emerges as a response to these needs, aspiring to provide a club lifestyle that's accessible to everyone, epitomized by the slogan "Life well played."

Pickleball and padel are the chosen sports to encapsulate this innovative club experience. By integrating fitness facilities and social spaces, Corte aims to establish a sense of community and a second home for its members. However, Corte's vision goes beyond merely offering courts and facilities; it revolves around a team of attentive staff who know each member by name, fostering a personalized and welcoming environment. Moreover, the inclusion of club professionals who curate tailored programs for members adds another layer of value to the experience.

In essence, Corte seeks to redefine the concept of a racquet club by democratizing access to high-quality amenities and services. It is designed to be a place where people can engage, socialize, and participate in sports and activities that promote a well-rounded and active lifestyle. The overarching aim is to provide more than just a physical space.

Corte endeavors to create a vibrant community centered around shared interests and the pursuit of a life well played.
